Why the storm? (Isaiah 40:31 continued)
Recently I read an article entitled “7 Highly Effective Habits of Eagles” by PGCPS for leaders and I was intrigued to learn that eagles are the only bird that doesn’t run AWAY from the storm instead they run TOWARDS the storm. The author says, “Eagles are the only birds that LOVE the storm. When all other birds try to flee from the storm and hide its fierceness, eagles fly into it and will use the wind of the storm to riser higher in a matter of seconds. They use the pressure of the storm to glide higher without having to use their own energy. They are able to do this because God has created them uniquely with an ability to lock their wings in a fixed position during the fierce storm winds.” After reading this I began to ponder how it any creature could run towards a storm and not from it. In my natural mind when I think of a storm I immediately think of ways to run away from the storm, find shelter, close all windows, and stay safe but the eagle teaches us that if we are going to get to the next level in God we can’t run from the storms. Instead we should run towards the because the storm it is pushing us further towards the things of God without much energy of our own. Could it be that during the wait God is conditioning us to look for storms to come to get us to the next level? Could it be that the waiting that we are doing is God’s way of strengthening our wings so that we can lock in our faith and withstand the wind of the storm? Could it be that waiting, if we allow it, changes our perspective from “not another storm” to “come on storm” because it symbolizes promotion? Let’s be honest, none of us are cheerfully signing up for a storm to hit our lives but Isaiah lets us know that if we wait on the Lord we have nothing to fear because like the eagle he has already built us to not only endure the storm but to use it for our benefit. When a storm comes we can trust that he has equipped so that on the other end of we are left standing but on a higher plateau. It is the storms in life that propel us further not the peaceful calm days instead those are rewards for enduring the storms of life. Take courage today if you find yourself in the midst of a storm you are equipped for this and on the other side you will be higher but still standing.
